5 Things You Need To Know About Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is an aesthetic treatment that can help make a real difference to your smile – and your confidence, too. In today’s post, our expert dentists here in Tunbridge Wells talk through 5 essential things to know about this life-changing treatment, so you can make a decision about whether to go ahead or not. And, if you’d like to arrange an appointment with us to find out more, then you can get in touch with us for a virtual consultation. Without further ado, here are those 5 things you must know about composite bonding.

1. It’s effective

Composite bonding is extremely realistic – giving you a shining bright smile, and even being matched to your natural teeth if you’re not getting your whole smile treated (though of course, you could have your smile whitened first!).

2. It’s minimally invasive

That’s right – no complicated surgery involved, or downtime required. Composite bonding is a treatment you can enjoy, then get back to your normal daily activities afterwards. It’s great to know that for a smile this shining, you won’t need to book recovery time off work!

3. It’s versatile

Chips and nicks? Cracked teeth? Uneven smile? Or just dull, stained teeth that have lost their healthy sparkle? Composite bonding can help address all these concerns and provide a low-cost makeover at the same time.

4. It’s easy

Many of our patients are intrigued to know how composite bonding works. It’s all down to an incredible putty-like substance that can be moulded and shaped by our dentists for each individual tooth, then set in place with a special UV light. The tooth doesn’t need any filing ahead of treatment, and the process doesn’t hurt, either (so there’s the bonus of no anaesthetic required).

5. It’s long-lasting

Most cases of composite bonding can last 6-7 years, though our dentists here in Tunbridge Wells do recommend a few things to prolong your results:

  • Avoid staining foods, drinks and lifestyle activities (e.g. tea and coffee; red wine; curry sauces; smoking and vaping)
  • Don’t bite your nails, chew pens, tear sellotape with your teeth, or do anything else that might cause damage to the composite bonding
  • Attend regular dental check-ups and keep on top of your oral health (brushing, flossing and mouthwash should all help)
